What would you do if you were in charge?
Published on September 1, 2005 By mgosh In Current Events
I have been reading, listening, and learning about people's opinion of Iraq. I see people shouting out their opinions and I thought that I would share my opinion of the war in Iraq as well.

We are right now deeply entrenched with an insurgency that is terrorists. Some people will say that they are just fighting off the U.S., but they are more than freedom fighters. They are terrorists in every way. They beheaded civilians on television to intimidate their country leaders. They murdered innocent children by targeting them as valid targets. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi aligned himself with Al Qaeda and he leads the terrorism in Iraq. He is now #2 man in Al Qaeda responsible for numerous deaths.

I am asking what you would do if you were in charge of the Iraqi war. What would be your policy changes and what would you do to change the tide of
the insurgency?

First I would not withdraw every troop from Iraqi; I would feel that is a monumental mistake. This would first lead credibility to the tactics of the terrorists, second it would lead to Osmaland as the terrorists would quickly take power in Iraq. Do not say the current security forces in Iraq are equipped to deal with the terrorists, currently they are unable to contain the insurgency which would only be empowered by an immediate withdrawal. You would wind up with a state of anarchy as there would be a power vacuum in Iraq and each faction would vie for power over Iraq. Finally this would lead to increased terrorism as the terrorists would have unprecedented access to weapons, capital, and the ability to ocrastrate deadly attacks against the U.S. Do not think for a minute the insurgents will go, oh the Americans left we can be friends. They will use their propaganda to encourage further acts of terrorism against American and American interests.

As for what I will do? I will withhold that for the moment, I am curious what you have to say first.

Stay put to see if the constitution is approved in October. If it is they need to be given some time to increase their security forces. If the constitution fails, GET OUT and let them deal with it!

I do not see us withdrawing in October if the consitution fails, that would be diplomatic blow to the effort to democrizise Iraq. It would be tough but the Iraqis would have to recreate a new consititution.
